與情態助動詞聯用 should/can/may/might/must/ought to/had better

A. 現在式 –（情態助動詞 + be + 過去分詞）

• Children should be taught to respect their elders.

  兒童應該要被教導去尊重長輩

• The music at the party is very loud and can be heard from far away.

  派對裡的音樂非常吵，從很遠的地方就可以被聽到。

• Good news, Chris may be offered a job soon. He had an interview at a law firm yesterday.

  好消息，Chris可能很快就會被給予一個工作了，他昨天去了一家律師事務所面試。

• Jerry might be promoted next year.

  Jerry明年可能會被升遷。

• The environment must be protected from pollution.

  環境務必要受保護免於污染。

• The books ought to be returned to the library tomorrow.

  這些書明天應該被歸還給圖書館。

• Eddie, your chores had better be finished by the time your mother gets home.

  Eddie, 你要做的家事最好在你媽媽回家前被完成哦。

  

B. 過去式 –（情態助動詞 + have been + 過去分詞）

• Jim should have been told the news a long time ago.

  Jim很早以前就該被告知這個消息了。

• The church must have been built over 300 years ago.

  這教堂一定是在超過300年前被建造的。

• James ought to have been invited to the farewell party.

  James 當時應該要被邀請參加惜別會。

  

與不定詞聯用 :

A. 現在式: to + be + 過去分詞

• It’s easy to be fooled by her lies.

  很容易被她的謊言所愚弄。

• Rosa expects to be invited to the party.

  Rosa 期望被邀請參加派對。

• The living room needs to be painted.

  這客廳需要被粉刷。

• Tim hopes to be awarded a scholarship for the coming semester.

  Tim 希望將到來的學期可以被授予獎學金。

  

B. 過去式 : to have been + 過去分詞

• Kathy is fortunate to have been given a scholarship.

  Kathy 很幸運，之前被授予了一個獎學金。

• We expected the work to have been completed yesterday, but it wasn’t.

  我們當時預期這個工作在昨天就會被完成，但並沒有。

  

與動名詞聯用 :

A. 現在式: being + 過去分詞

• The children are excited about being taken to the zoo.

  小朋友們很興奮被帶去動物園玩。

• Most film stars hate being interviewed.

  大多數的電影明星不喜歡被訪問。

  

B. 過去式: having been + 過去分詞

• I appreciate having been told the news.

  我很感謝之前被告知了這個消息。

• Mr. Freeman mentioned having been injured in a car accident, but he didn’t tell us the details.

  Freeman先生之前提及在車禍中受傷了，但他當時並沒有告訴我們細節。
