Equivoci comuni in inglese: differenza fra each ed every

Spesso gli studenti trovano difficile capire la differenza tra ‘each’ ed _‘every’_ e sapere come usarli correttamente. Queste due parole hanno significati simili ma non sono sempre identiche. Vediamo come usarle.

Each

Per prima cosa, vediamo ‘each’. Si usa ‘each’ per mostrare qualcosa una a una. Aiuta a esprimere l’individualità. Ecco qualche esempio:

• “Each day I go to the supermarket on my way to class”.

• __“Each time I speak to her she is very friendly”.

• “Each year I go to my grandma’s house for Christmas”.

“Each” può essere anche usato prima del verbo, ad esempio:

• “Each student received good grades in their test”.

Può essere anche seguito da ‘of’:

• “Each of the children received a present for Christmas”.

• “The teacher gave each of them a sticker for good work”.

Every

Ora vediamo ‘every’.  ‘Every’ viene usato per riferirsi a tutti i membri individuali di un’entità senza eccezioni. Ad esempio:

• “Every student has to work hard to get good grades in class”.

• “Every writer has a creative mind”.

• “Every visitor should keep off the grass”.

‘Every’ viene usato anche per mostrare la frequenza con cui capita qualcosa.

• “There is a flight to Beijing every day”.

• “Every afternoon the shop has a sale on food”.

• “The train leaves every hour”.

Una regola importante da ricordare è che ‘every’ non può essere usato per riferirsi a due cose contemporaneamente, mentre ‘each’ può. Ad esempio:

• “She was carrying bags in each hand”.

• “In each box there is a prize”.
